Congratulations!

Getting married is such an exciting step but there is so much that can terrify and create pressure around the actual day that it can take all of the fun and you can lose some of the real point of your wedding day .  At Brynafon we understand that and with our 6 years experience of holding weddings in a venue that we love, we are certain that we can take some of that pressure off you leaving you to have the fun!

Don’t just take our word for it.  You are invited to a ‘discovery dinner’ in our Simply Welsh’ Restaurant.  On any Sunday simply bring along your pack and quote the phrase ‘discovery dining’ and enjoy a 2-course Sunday lunch on us. Booking is essential.

We are a small hotel and there are a number of things that make us a unique venue to hold your big occasion:
•    Your wedding will be the only one on any given day – you are the absolute focus of everyone’s attention – not just your family & friends but our staff as well! There is no chance that you will run into any other bride on your day!
•    You control the menu – there is no set pattern – we have an idea of what has gone before but if there is something that you really want then we can source it and present it in the best way on the day. With our locally sourced, seasonal and organic produce we aim to provide everything with the lowest possible carbon footprint.
•    You decide on size and we help you stick to it! We have had numerous marquees installed at the hotel but have successfully held about 40% of weddings inside without the added expense of a marquee.  Some brides find that the restricted numbers help them to pick and choose who they invite more carefully!
•    We are licensed for civil ceremonies.  We have 3 rooms that you can use for your ceremony:
o    The Restaurant – a cosy beamed space with original flagged floors and heaps of character for a really intimate feel. 30 Guests.
o    The Function Room – A newly decorated room with beautiful windows overlooking the pond and fernery, with a period fireplace and place for 50 guests.
o    The Library – A comfortable and unique area to have your ceremony. 30 Guests.

•    We have 18 bedrooms that can be booked by your friends & family, and many contacts within Rhayader & surrounds for further accommodation if required.
•    Convenient location just off the A470 and excellent parking facilities.

 Wedding Packages

If you would like the hotel to be used exclusively for your wedding, we require that all bedrooms are taken.  In this instance the Bride & Groom will be offered a complimentary deluxe room.

Bespoke Weddings start from just £37.50 per head

Bridal Package - £2000.00

We know that getting a starting point to work from is often what you need to get your head around all the different aspects of your wedding so we have created a basic package that you can use entirely so there is nothing else to worry about.  The Bridal package is designed for 40 guests and includes:
o    All preparation & planning meetings on site
o    Wedding ceremony & Reception rooms
o    Co-coordinating floral decoration in entranceway to the hotel
o    Champagne for the Bride & Groom post ceremony
o    3 Course Wedding Breakfast (note the * items in the Rose Menu)
o    Wine – Red or White – two bottles per table.
o    Sparkling Wine for the speeches & Toasting the bride
o    Tableware and cream or white table linen
o    Finger buffet for 40 evening guests (note the * items in the Buffet Menu)
o    A room overnight for the Bride & Groom

Civil Ceremony - points to be considered:

A Civil Marriage is a Public Ceremony and it is a legal requirement that any member of the public who wishes to attend the marriage may do so.
•     The bride and groom must agree the content of the Ceremony with the Superintendent Registrar in advance. Any music, reading, words or performance forming any part of the Ceremony must be secular.
•    Music may be allowed in the Marriage Room (at the discretion of the hotel and with the Superintendent Registrar's consent). The hotel would be pleased to help arrange live music such as a string quartet or harpist if desired.

Wedding Day Possibilities:

We have had a number of weddings at Brynafon and they have proved very successful and enjoyable days.  The key thing to remember is that you have to be happy with your choice.  If you have a large family who are all likely to attend then to restrict yourself in terms of numbers without the marquee might become problematic, likewise if you have a few close friends and family then to have the addition of the marquee might not be feasible.
There are a range of formats that we are happy to suggest and these are listed below:

Case 1

Event was reception only with the wedding ceremony being held in a local church.
120 guess for the wedding breakfast so a marquee was necessary and placed to the front of the building with an entrance to the hotel via an integrated tunnel to the main function room.
Guests were served with canapés and Pimms & lemonade upon arrival.
The wedding breakfast was a 2 course meal (main course & dessert) followed by a hog roast and buffet for 250 people in the evening.
A secondary bar was required due to the number of people attending and there were 2 live bands in the evening.

Case 2

Event was reception only with the wedding ceremony being held in a local church.
There were 80 guests and received sparkling wine and fruit juice upon arrival.
The breakfast - a hog roast & buffet with a cheeseboard in the evening. No marquee was required and a disco provided the entertainment in the evening.

Case 3

Event was for 40 guests.
The ceremony was held in the main function room and the reception held in the bar & restaurant.
Pimms was served directly after the ceremony followed by a 2 course meal and a cheeseboard in the evening.
This particular couple are keen musicians and entertainment was provided by a flamenco guitarist, a harpist during dinner and a rock band in the evening.

Case 4

Civil ceremony was held in the main function room for 60 guests.
A small marquee was erected in the front of the building and the 2 course wedding breakfast and reception was held here.
A local DJ entertained.

Case 5

A couple’s second marriage with a keen emphasis on the family was held with the ceremony in the restaurant (tables removed!).
25 guests were catered for in the main function room and were served with a 3 course meal.  Music was provided via the couples own collection and a CD player.
The event was low key, intimate, with the minimum of fuss - which was exactly what the couple wanted.

Handy Hints

  1. Decide on what you want - Research is key and there are loads of magazines inspire you.
  2. Don’t be unrealistic – weather, guests, and perfection are virtually impossible to control!
  3. Photographers are massively important.  When the day is over you want to know that you have the very best memories possible.
  4. Find out payment deadlines for suppliers – embarrassing scenes on the day is just a nightmare you don’t want!
  5. Make sure that you can talk to your suppliers and that they are listening to you.
  6. Don’t forget the groom! This really is a bride’s day but he is pretty important too!
  7. Make sure that you have fun on the day! Eat some food and enjoy yourself!

Marquees

Due to the size restraint within the hotel if you would like to have more than 50 guests attend your wedding then we insist that you have a marquee.  We have used Llangwathan Marquees over the years; who are locally based (Hay-on-Wye), provide an exceptional service, have dedicated wedding marquees, and have experience with the location.
The package that we have put together from Llangwathan includes all our recommended extras: Interior Linings, Generator, Lights, Flooring & Carpet, Hard Floor Dance area, Tables & Chairs and Tunnel to the hotel.

Gerry is passionate about food and has a strong presence on the wedding days to ensure that the quality of both food and service is kept at the highest standard.
We have outlined a number of food options below.  These are mainly dishes that we have done for weddings before but if there is anything specific that you would like then please do get in touch.
Brynafon reserves the right to change these prices at any time. The prices quoted include the hire of the hotel for the day, staff, linens, crockery etc. These are subject to availability and food prices at the time of purchase.
